Jazz Violin Course in Aveyron

Answers to questions asked in the Jazz Violin Course in Aveyron

In the end, I decided to make a small article on the detailed progress of the jazz violin course in Aveyron! I had an extremely busy June and beginning of July, a real race of events! Between the concerts, the organization of my life with my daughter, and other things that weighed on my mind… I didn’t have time to provide more details regarding this jazz violin workshop. Moreover it is VIOLONIS who organizes this course and they madea page about it

But as many of you write to me and ask me questions about the details of this jazz violin course… now that I have a little time, I will write about them here so that everything will be clearer! We already have several registrations and I’m delighted! But for the moment the number of students does not yet allow us to invite JOHAN RENARD (teacher at Didier Lockwood’s school, who was also my teacher!), but if there are more registrations we can also invite him!

Dates and location of the jazz violin course

It will be from July 21 to 24 at La Fouillade, in a beautiful area in the middle of nature! Ideal environment to work.

I spent some time there in 2013. Jacques Gay, the founder of VIOLONIS (who, by the way, makes super custom chin straps!) welcomed us to perform at the festival he organised.. in his garden!! Five years later, he unfortunately no longer has the subsidies that allow him to reorganize the whole festival… But as I have had many requests for jazz violin courses from you, we thought of organizing one at his place, because the setting seemed ideal to me! On this link, you can observe photos and videos of the venue and of my visit to the festival in 2013.

Regarding the jazz violin course: we will be hosted and fed by Jacques, which will allow us to focus exclusively on our work!

In the evening, if you want to keep playing, we can jam together!

The idea behind the Jazz Violin Course

On 21-22-23, we will be in “intensive course” mode to learn to swing the violin. I will apply my method to teach students how to progress in jazz violin. We will be regularly accompanied by guitarist Rodrigue Vera Ortiz during our work, which will be a great luxury! Indeed, nothing like practice while being accompanied by a musician. In addition, he will help me to separate the groups in case of too big differences in levels and will also make some of you work.

On the 24th, we will have the opportunity to perform a duo concert with guitarist Rodrigue Vera Ortiz, and we will invite students who wish to share the stage with us. There will also be a behind-the-scenes concert between the student performances.

Schedules of the jazz violin course

Here are the detailed timetables:

The 9:00 p.m.: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (With a break. We will start a little later to give everyone time to arrive)

The 22nd: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. / 2 p.m.-5 p.m.

The 23rd: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. / 2 p.m.-5 p.m.

The 24th: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. / free afternoon / concert at the end of the afternoon (time to be defined)

Schedules can be changed at the time, in agreement with everyone of course!

Who is this jazz violin course intended for?

The course is open to people who have a basic practice of the violin. People who have not yet started jazz are welcome, and those who are already more advanced too.

I still ask to send me a video or mp3 of you playing jazz or swing, or something else if you haven’t started jazz yet. It’s really to help me organize the jazz violin course and the schedules, and to possibly form groups according to the levels.

How to prepare for the Jazz Violin Course

Yesterday I published a new video with 3 typical end phrases in gypsy jazz. Feel free to work on this and all the other videos on the blog! I particularly recommend the 20-minute lesson with the basics of the jazz violin.

Here is the link to the VIOLONIS website to register for the course ! I will look forward to seeing you there!

Below, here is a duet video with Rodrigue Vera Ortiz who will be present to accompany the workshop:
